All three lakes are excellent for boating and fishing, and Worster Lake also has a swimming beach. The Walkerton Park and Recreation Department offers many youth and adult programs. The John Glenn School Corporation and the Oregon-Davis School Corporation also offer recreational facilities in addition to their educational programs. Each year, the Walkerton Parks Department sponsors one of Northern Indiana's largest fireworks display for Independence Day.
Walkerton has a paid police force, volunteer fire department, and ambulance service to South Bend, LaPorte, or Plymouth where hospitals are located.
It owns its municipal electric and water distribution system with adequate supply to serve any needs. Five people constitute the police and fire radio control center on a 24-hour-a-day basis.
